Submitting for a friend who was diagnosed 4 years ago with ALS. His symptoms are only on his right side, and appeared after an injury.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
The reason why I’m writing this summary is because my friend Sean has been dealing with these issues mainly nerve issues for over 5 years. I'm listed as his advocate. Here's his timeline.
End of Nov. of 2012 (he's a General Contractor) he was working at a job site and carving a piece of wood and knife slipped, went into right hand down to the bone went to ER and had 4 stiches to muscle and 9 to the skin (surface) went home the very next day our downstairs flooded so he went to the sump pump and cleaned all the debris out with his hands.
Went back to ER about 10days later, his hand was a bit swollen red and hot but Dr. said that was typical. For the next few months he would get nauseous, chills and major headaches(that come and go over the years)
After a few months his hand was fine except for an occasional twitch in his injured thumb and index finger, thought nothing of it just figured it was damage to the muscle and nerves from the knife wound.
After a year(2013) he noticed that his whole right hand would twitch periodically throughout the day.
he was an avid swimmer growing up (HS swim team, Diver) in late summer on camping trip at the lake he noticed he couldn’t hold his breath the same as before.
End of that year into next his face was always hot to the touch, red and slightly swollen(puffy),
2014 his neck and mid back would be in pain all day every day.
2015 he had laser (May)on my face to attempt to remove veins that he thought were causing red face. Few months after that he had really bad rosacea on his face, as well as big rashes in his groin area and the upper crack of his butt.
At end of August on camping trip with family and friends comment was made about his speech from a friend at 8:30am.
From that point on his speech deteriorated rapidly.
Note: all his twitching and issues have been on right side of body only.
Was diagnosed in 2016 with ALS, but has not lost any strength, in fact has increased his free weight lifting in his work out regiment by 100%, while he is working full time as a contractor. He usually runs up to 2.5 miles 2 to 3x’s a week at an incline of 2 to10 on the treadmill, and work out for about 1.5hrs 5to6x’s a week after work.
Over these 4plus years of his issues, his neck and back issues have only gotten much worse as well as his headaches and for the last year he's tried CBD with and w/o THC, Ben Gay, all types of painkillers nothing works. Most recently, he has been on a raw diet cleanse, and has had pain symptoms in his foot, neck and back decrease.
I sometimes get boils on my neck close to ears and itchy scabs on my head and sometimes on the elbows(like eczema) .
My joint pain is the worse right when I get up in morning then tapers off during the day.
I have other issues that developed over same window of time- vision, fluidity of movement on right side, nose bleeds every few months(month on 3months off), sinus drainage and throat irritation, dizzy spells, stiffness, ear (ache)buzzing, right hand and foot get cold sometimes and throb, bones in right arm hurts during workout, as well as others.
Note:-When I recline to a 45degree or lay down I loose half of the strength in my right hand only, if I stand up it regains full strength within about 2mins.
In the morning if I stretch or yawn my right side only spasms and contracts.
