- CASE FILE
Stomach symptoms leading to a highly selective diet, but not consistent with other IBS/Crohns symptoms.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
At age 22 I went to the ER with sharp stomach pains. After multiple tests I was admitted for an exploratory appendectomy. They discovered my intestine was leaking. I had several inches removed. And started on the typical anti-inflammatory medications like Remicaid. After a year of expensive treatments I quit cold turkey and started managing my diet. I cannot eat any vegetables, but especially not corn, peas, and celery. I cannot eat any seeds, oats, or heavy grains.
I am also restricted on spices like from BBQ to hot peppers.
I can tell within 10 minutes if I have eaten something too spicy or fatty.
I rang from instant diarrhea to bloating and feeling lethargic while digesting.
I can find it hard to get enough energy thru the week and dread anyone preparing food for me. I am 6’ 3” and 140 lbs on a good week. My diet has become more restrictive as I’ve aged, and after 15 years of watching everything I eat I’m exhausted and desperate for a real cure.
In 2017 I had a massive bleed ulcer, my doctor did multiple follow up colonoscopies but could not link it to a specific cause. I worry that I will have a relapse or something worse. I am optimistic that I have not had more intestine removed, but long to experience a move varied and flavorful diet.
