- CASE FILE
Over the last 14 years, I have been diagnosed with multiple autoimmune illnesses. No one looks at the big picture to find a why.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
My "other" are the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Degenerative Disc Disease, Rheumatoid Lung and Pemphigus. I have chronic pain in my joints and soft tissues, neck and lower back pain, and blisters on my back and scalp. The medications have affected my liver, causing a switch in meds and most recently an ulcer, causing the doctors to pull me off of NSAIDS. Heat causes swelling in my feet and hands as well as making it harder to breathe. Cold causes stiffness to increase 10 fold. Medication and the inability to exercise has caused extreme weight gain no matter what I do to lose it. I work full time in order to keep my insurance and pay my bills and go to school in order to train for a job that is less physical but I don't know how much longer I can do my job. Lifting causes pain, standing and walking too long causes my entire lower back to feel as if I have been run through with a hot poker. I used to walk my dogs for exercise but I have lost that ability and the last time I walked on a treadmill for an hour I was in bed for the next two days. I am also constantly exhausted. I explain the cycle like this- pain is exhausting, and exhaustion exacerbates the pain. I currently have a primary care doctor, rheumatologist, pain management doctor, spine doctor, physical therapist, gastroenterologist, and dermatologist. We, as a chronic illness community, need someone in the medical community that can look at ALL of our issues and put together the pieces of the puzzle to find out what is going on with our immune system that more and more of our bodies are affected and find a way to treat it us as a whole. I greatly appreciate that this program is happening and hope that your participants find answers. More importantly, I hope it spurs the medical community to create a sort of clearinghouse for multiple issues.
