- CASE FILE
Wound on my foot, no trauma. Hospitalized, seeing every specialty. Not healing. Diagnosed with autoimmune APS, being tested for lupus.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I had wounds show up on both feet at the same time, no previous trauma. They continued to get larger and deeper instead of healing. Started going to wound care where we tried every treatment we could and nothing worked for the one on my right foot. The one on my left foot healed. The wound on my right foot went almost down to the bone so my wound care/podiatrist put me in the hospital for a week and partial amputation was discussed. Every specialty was brought in on my case. I was diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome (autoimmune blood clotting disorder), diabetes and venous insufficiency. I am currently being tested for lupus. I see a rheumatologist, hematologist, wound care/podiatrist, vascular specialist and my primary care doctor. My wound care doctor and his team have said that my case is very intriguing and a mystery. He recently told me he has reached his cap of expertise, that we have literally tried everything and nothing has worked. He said he doesn't know what else to do. I have had biopsies and multiple debridings. They think it was caused by a blood clot so I am currently on Coumadin with therapeutic INR. This is absolutely the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I would rather give birth again than to feel this pain one more day! This has now been going on for a year and a half. The wound will show some improvement and then open back up. Last week I had another wound show up on the inside of my big toe. I dont know what else to do. It has taken a toll on myself, my family and my job. I don't know where else to turn to or what to do from this point. I feel like my doctors are just blowing me off because they really don't know what else to do to this. I have been in so much pain I have reached a point that if it would make it feel better I dont even care if they amputate, however, I would like to keep my foot if possible.
