ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
constant dry retching for 9 weeks now. All testing reveals nothing. Trips to ER's can knock it down with IV anti-nausea meds, but each trip it seems to be a different med that works, and it is less effective each time. Doctors think body's metabolism does not allow for processing meds by mouth, so prescribed meds do no good at home. All can be traced back to gastric bypass in 2002. Previous bout (2012) lasted 3 months with no intake of fluids or food -- went down to 98 pounds. Saved with last-ditch effort of feeding tube. Bariatric doctor thinks hiatal hernia is to blame, but can't prove it. He can't operate locally, due to no ICU, and has no privileges anywhere else. University of Iowa hospitals called her a "surgeon's nightmare" and won't touch her. Mayo has been unresponsive to her plight. Local ER said yesterday, "Don't bother coming back here, we're tired of seeing you."
