Inclusion Body Myositis is a rare progressive neuromuscular disease that typically begins after the age of 50 and gets worse over a period of 25 years. Most persons start walking with a limp and progress to a walker and wheelchair. Many lose quadricep strength with weakness in the tongue, throat and distal limbs. The screening and ultimate diagnose are done with a muscle biopsy & blood tests to confirm rimmed vacuoles around the muscles. Only 25,000 persons have been diagnosed in the U.S.
