Persistent cough/almost passing out, chest pain/trouble breathing, severe post nasal drip, sinus surgery. On going for 15 years. No answers
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
For the last 15 years or so I've been dealing with a chronic cough. Within the last 10 years it's gotten worse and worse every year. I started going to an ENT thinking it was just bad allergies, did the shots, Allergy drops thinking it would help. Did for a few months then came back even worse than before. Doctor said I had a severe deviated septum and I needed surgery. So I did. No improvement and my septum is worse than when I started, my nose is really bent and hooked towards the bottom and I noticed I had horrible post nasal drip, I mean THICK you cant cough it up and the smell was horrible. I changed doctors and he figured out I had asthma and put me on an inhaler. This worked for a few weeks and the cough came back. I've had scans, blood work and no doctor has been able to give me any kind of answer or reason why this is. The new doctor suggested I go in for another sinus surgery but I am terrified it will again make things worse. I understand asthma during a workout is normal. But I sit at a desk for work and I am not moving, but there will be times I will start coughing to the point where they are just dry heaves and my head will be in the trash can. The cough is a lung cough and times it will be more of a bronchitic sound. I can't keep living like this. Everyday its a struggle and not to mention annoying, there are so many things I can't do anymore because I know I won't be able to catch my breath. The only way I can be normal and not cough is having a mint or something to suck on but after years of having to rely on that, its starting to take a toll on my teeth. I feel like I am a lost cause and this is how I have to live my life. In pain from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed.
