ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
In July 2018 I suddenly developed an intensly itchy rash with oozing, open sores on my chest, back, groin and legs. Multiple doctors visits and lots of medications (steroid creams, oral steroids like prednisone) later and nothing helped. No one knew what this was until I saw a dermatologist who said it looked like Grover's Disease and biopsied a sore which came back confirming Grover's Disease. The dermatologist increased the strength of the steroids and gave me a potent antihistamine (Atarax or Hydroxyzine) to help with the itching. This disease is INCURABLE and very little is known about it. So far the changed the dermatologist made have not helped so I saw another dermatologist who started me on Acitretin (so many terrible potential side effects but I am desperate). The itching is so insense, unlike anything I could ever imagine. I have not slept more than 2-3 hours a night in a year and I am exhausted mentally and physically. I read somewhere that people with Grover's Disease are 46% more likely to commit suicide and I can understand that. I have close to doing it myself. This is such a debilitating disease and very lttle is known about it probably because it is quite rare. Most people affected are white, males in their 40's. I am a female in my late 60's which makes it even more unusual. The things that worsen it are getting warm, sweating or sun exposure. I live in AZ where it is always sunny and over 100 in the summer. I used to be very active (hiking, biking, swimming, jogging, going to the gym) but I have had to give all of that up and stay indoors all the time which is depressing. I have never heard of anyone else who has this so I can't even talk to anyone who would understand. I am attaching some (poor quality, sorry!) photos of my chest and back (I'll refrain from attacking the groin one).
