- CASE FILE
I have lost my TASTE BUDS. This happened after Gastric Bypass and Hiatal Hernia surgery a year ago.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Lost my ability to TASTE anything (sweet, salty, savory, sour, spicy, etc). This occurred right after my Hiatal Hernia and Gastric Bypass surgery a year ago. I have been to:
ENT Doctor - not related to loss of smell and believes that a nerve was damaged during surgery.
Gastro Doctor - this has never happened to a patient in his 40 years and doesn't know what could be done.
Endo Doctor - believes this is most likely due to damage during surgery.
All three doctors feel that if I haven't regain my ability to taste by now that it will never happen.
The only sort of "taste" I am getting is a faint acid reflux in the back of my throat on a very infrequent basis.
This doesn't sound like a big deal, however it is the taste of things that satiates you and helps your brain realize you are full. I am constantly in a state of "wanting" something to eat. So far nothing has worked to "hit the spot" to tell my brain that I am satisfied. To make things worse, I used to have an exceptional palate!
