Routine blood work showed that I have a VERY low CD4 count yet I am HIV negative. My doctors are baffled.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I have Essential Thrombocytosis (ET) so I see a hematologist monthly. Recently, he discovered that I have a VERY low CD4 count. I am HIV negative and have no other symptoms, nor have I been exposed to radiation or had IV chemotherapy. My doctor is baffled and yet my count continues to drop. He wants me to take a prophylactic antibiotic because he is so afraid that I will develop pneumonia. I think that's ridiculous! I feel fine, not even a sniffle or any hint of a cough. I already take enough medications between my ET, migraines, and osteoporosis and I really don't need another one especially to treat something that doesn't exist. I would be grateful if someone could solve this mystery!
