- CASE FILE
Body creates alcohol from food - Its called Auto Brewery Syndrome
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
There is currently not a test that can distinguish between endogenous alcohol vs not. Most who have ABS cannot eliminate it or control it by diet alone. Diabetes complicates the ABS - Diabetics can wake up with a blood alcohol level of .14 or above, which is a normal day for them. Eliminating carbs only curbs the symptoms for some, but not for all. Members of our group have been prescribed anti fungals but we have found that some of the yeast that has been identified is resistant to medication. Some members of our support group have been in what we call "remission" and some have had a relapse without taking an antibiotic. If someone who once had ABS in our group is in remission, they get ABS back after taking another antibiotic. Not everyone can identify the yeast in stool samples. Some members have gotten samples through an endoscopy and "not fully cleaned" colonoscopy. There are very few case studies published, but our doctors in Staten Island NY currently have at least 13 members being seen/tested/treated for Auto Brewery.
When you have this condition, your tests will reveal high blood alcohol levels after consuming carbs, and blood alcohol levels remaining high for 2 or more days straight (and dropping very quickly), Lactic Acid High, Extremely High Glucose Levels (Diabetics and some non-diabetics), High Acetaldehyde Levels, High White Blood Cell Count, High Blood Pressure, Low Oxygen Levels, Low grade fever, Low Vitamin D, Low Magnesium, Low Zinc, Low testosterone (reported in men), Low potassium, Kidney Enzymes high, Liver Enzymes High, Lipase Levels elevated or extremely high, Helicobacter pylori, Barrett's esophagus.
When you have this condition, you will experience, Incoherent, Vomiting, Nausea, Diarrhea, Hallucinations/DT's, Seizure, Blackouts, Violent Shaking, Cold/Cold Sweats, Itchy Torso, Headaches, Extreme fatigue - Sleeping sometimes for 22 hours straight, Dry mouth, Thrush, Swelling of feet/legs, Memory loss, Hangovers, Incontinence, Craving for pickles, Body Yeast/foot fungus.
There currently is no "cure" for the brewers yeast and bacteria from growing back that we are aware of. We need a CURE !!
Some of the yeast/bacteria that has been identified in cases so far are:
o Candida Intermedia
o Candida Guilliermondii
o Candida Parapsilosis
o Candida Albacans
o Aspergillus Oryzae
o Acidaminococcus Fermentans
o Klebsiella Pneumoniae
o Enterococcus Faecium
o Saccharomyces Cerevisiae
o Agricola Candida
The doctors are unaware this condition exists and do not know how to test or treat it. The medical insurance companies don't even have this listed as a medical condition.
