- CASE FILE
I have an idiopathic multi-symptom illness. I have lived in several states on the east and west coast and I have served in Iraq and Kuwait.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
The issues began approximately three or more years ago. I believe the first symptom were cognitive cloudiness and memory loss. My VA doctor at the time brushed off the issues and thought it might be related to a low level of vitamin B and D. Taking supplements didn’t help.
It slowly progressed to asthma-like breathing issues and chronic fatigue or malaise. I was treated for pneumonia, at one point. In 2016, I broke out into hives that covered my body. I was diagnosed with idiopathic urticarial vasculitis. The outbreak lasted approximately a year.
I was passed from doctor to doctor and my symptoms were often brushed off after numerous blood tests came back negative. I became bedridden and the symptoms progressed to my heart. Out of desperation, I began researching and studying similar medical conditions and I was finally able to convince my doctor to prescribe a trial of doxycycline. The chest pain and irregular heart beat went away after several days. After taking doxycycline 200mg a day for approximately two weeks, felt much better and was improving for about a month before symptoms returned.
I have currently been taking doxycycline for two months. Without a diagnosis, I don’t know if taking doxycycline alone will cure my illness, if it is even the best medication, or how long I should take it to eliminate the illness.
