My immune system attacks cells in my blood, three years ago it was my red blood cells, a year ago until currently, my platelets.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I seem healthy at first glance, 34 years old. But then, when I was covered with mysterious bruises last spring, I found out that for some unknown reason my body attacks my blood cells, specifically my platelets. They have been as low as 5,000. Three years ago my red blood cells went dangerously low. My bone marrow tests normal, except it showed no iron stores. Lab tests indicate my body doesn’t absorb nutrients correctly. I have been diagnosed with vitiligo since childhood, and ITP. But ITP isn’t a true diagnoses, it’s really just s description. I don’t have the markers for other “autoimmune diseases”. I know there must be a reason my platelets are disappearing, that my immune system attacks them, but I’m told there are no answers and no cures.
