ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I developed a daily fever (up to 103.8) during my second pregnancy with associated dizziness, fatigue, weakness, body aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. This fever episode lasted 12 weeks. I have since had 4 “flares” over the last year and a half, each fever episode lasting 4-12 weeks. I have seen Infectious Disease with a negative infectious workup. I have also seen rheumatology and have a positive ANA and elevated ESR, but do not meet enough criteria to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. I have also seen immunology, and have had a negative immune deficiency workup (but did have a high MBL, indicative of heightened disease activity of this undiagnosed fever disorder). During my pregnancy, I also saw a high risk maternal-fetal medicine doctor, but delivered a healthy, full term baby. I recently started lactating (not pregnant or breasfeeding) and had a normal pituitary MRI.
This disorder has significantly impacted my quality of life. At times, I am so weak and dizzy I can barely lift my children. I have had to rely on friends and family for help with my children, and often have to call out of work because I feel so poorly. I am a nurse and often get discouraged seeing so many people be diagnosed, receive treatment, and improve, while I am still waiting for answers. I have dealt with both anxiety and depression as a result of this disorder and its impact on my life.
