- CASE FILE
I’m a walking lab rat! For over 17 yrs I have suffered with severe debilitating migraine, at least that’s what drs say. No injury/accident.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Medical conditions: Hypothyroidism; stage 1 thyroid cancer.
Chronic Migraine- severe pain 90% L associated, occipital and behind eye, L eye drooping, blurred vision, nausea. Face feels skeletal & paralyzed. My pain is so severe that I cry in pain, and wish that someone remotely understood what is happening inside my head- it’s like a vice tightening and at any minute I’m waiting for it to implode. I get dizzy and can’t drive my car; and everything around me is a trigger - light, sound, smell, crowds.
My initial treatment for migraines began in Michigan in my late 20’s where I learned I was allergic to Tripans. I moved to North Carolina and saw a Board Certified neurologist for 10 years who tried numerous medications from beta blockers, anti-depressants, anti-seizers, and abortives.
I can’t count how many times I’ve been to the ER, or been admitted to “break” resistant migraine. In 2014, I did a 8 day inpatient program at MHNI. In 2015, I had a MRI that showed a small aneurysm that doctors ignored. In 2016, I had a neuro-stimulator implanted.
And between all of that time, I have had: facet injections, Botox, trigger injections, spinal taps, nerve blocks, PT, acupuncture, SPG blocks, deep tissue massage, cryotherapy, and biofeedback.
This unrelenting pain has wrecked havoc on my life. My ex-husband took me to court to seek full custody of our son. I have been terminated from six jobs since 2012 because of absence. I have missed countless events- my child’s soccer games, award ceremonies, my own birthday party, Christmas Eve with my family, vacations, time with friends. I no longer bother to even make plans because I almost know that I will have to break them.
I’m highly allergic to DHE (afib), all triptans (rapid heartbeat & tongue swelling) and sulfanimites so I cannot take any of these medications.
