Please help our daughter. 5 1/2 year old daughter, Jona, with down syndrome diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis. No solid BM's or 3 years
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
We took our daughter to Pittsburgh Children's to be seen by a specialist for her consistent diarrhea. She had not had a solid bowel movement for 3 years. The constant diarrhea and loose bowels lead to blow outs and very sore privates. Jona is 5 1/2 with down syndrome and is not interested in potty training currently. She is still in diapers. She had a colonoscopy and endoscopy which showed no visible inflammation until after further review via microscope..after this review there was evidence of micro colitus in the walls of her small and large intestine. At this point she was diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis (micro colitis). Lymphocytic colitis is very rare, even rarer at our daughters age per her doctor. Doctors suggested diary free, gluten free diets which we did with no change in bowels. Our daughter is currently on Pentasa 3x daily to keep inflammation down but no change in bowels. We tried Imodium which reduced bowels completely; adjusted dosage and bound up too much. Nothing seems to be working. Of course as parents we are frustrated but also concerned and looking for help and getting to the bottom of what can help out little girl. We are looking for help so our daughter can have healthy solid BM's and reducing soreness and blow outs before she enters kindergarten this Fall. Please help and thank you.
