When Kalee was 2 years old she was diagnosed with Urinary Reflux 2. They said she would grow out of it and there should not be any problems. She is 18 now and has always and still is having problems with recurrent UTIs, kidney infections, and bacterial vaginosis. I was not able to keep a job as she was growing up due to her illness because she would have accidents and/or stomach pains that would require me leaving work to pick her up several times a week. She is not able to function normally because she is always feeling sick, has incontinency problems because of the infections and frequency. The incontinency can get to the point that she has to wear disposable undergarements to keep from wetting herself.
She has seen doctors and specialists that seem to mean well by doing tests and prescribing antibiotics but they only mask the problem because it never actually goes away and stays away. She is currently being seen at the UM Urology Clinic in Minneapolis, MN by Dr. Fok. Kalee has a follow up appointment with her in September.
Dr. Fok ordered dynamic testing and a VCUG. Both tests came back normal. Yet she is currently sick with symptoms of another infection right now.
Kalee says she has pain in a line down the center of her vaginal area and across her lower abdomin. She usually gets a headache and stomach pain as well. Sometimes she gets nauseous. There have been no fevers. She experiences frequency and pain with urination. There has been some constipation or diarrhea.
Kalee cannot keep up good attendance at school or keep a job due to her illness. She spends most of her time alone in her room but does occasionally get out with a friend.
Sports were difficult because of her pain and incontinency.
The specialists she has seen have tried to come up with a solution but for the most part do not have a conclusive concrete opinion on what the problem is. Dr. Fok has Kalee trying a fiber supplement to see if maybe the problem is constipation as there was an issue with that at the last visit. Kalee has since cleared the blockage but is sick yet again.
Kalee has been prescribed antibiotics over and over again. She has even been placed on maintenance dosages for several months but still was getting the UTIs. She has tried some AZO but either didn't take it long enough or its just not really helping either.
Nothing else has been done to aliviate the issues.
