On Jan 19th, 2017 the big bang happened. I went to the bathroom at work to have a routine bowel movement after eating 2 crackers. Earlier that day I had taken my medication for constipation which was Linzess. While on the toilet and having that bowel movement I started to get dizzy, light headed, it was like something came over my body that made me weak. On my walk back to my office things started to appear different, I have waked this same hallway for years, and all of a sudden it was like this hallway was different like at an angle, and the lights were bothering my eyes; it was like my brain was conscious of every movement I was making, the ground felt unstable. I felt “Odd” and “Hot” so I cut the fan on, still feeling dizzy. It felt like my head was spinning, and my neck was hurting badly.I was unable to drive, due to being so off balance, and head pain. I went home, laid down and went to sleep, then took a Hot shower, while in the shower my heart started racing, and I still felt dizzy. I decided to take some Mylanta for upset stomach thinking maybe my stomach was causing all these weird symptoms.
The next day I woke up still not feeling well, head hurting, unstable, off balance etc. I went to the ER they did a CT scan of my neck, and x ray of my abdomen, along with blood work. Everything came back normal. They diagnosed me as having a migraine/headache prescribed medications, and suggested I take Miralx for the constipation. That Monday 01/23/2017 I went to see my PCP, and I told him of my symptoms. While there I felt dizzier, and the lights continued to hurt my eyes. I also had this tingling feeling in my right hand, so he suggested I see a neurologist. I saw a neuro-otologist (ENT), and told him of my symptoms, he ordered a brain MRI, and took me out of work for a week. During this week I was also able to see a neurologist, who ordered a MRI of my cervical spine. It came back normal. There is normal alignment of the cervical spine with slight reversal of the cervical lordosis in the region between C2 and C6, as well as blood work, everything came back fine, so she prescribed migraine medications. All which did nothing to help my symptoms. In the beginning my pain/discomfort was only in the head and face on the right side, but eventually left side became affected as well. I was experiencing 24/7 off balance dizziness feeling, head pressure , head pain, tender spot in back of head on right side, BAD Pain deep within/behind eyes, cheek pain on right side of face down into jaw line, neck pain, sensitivity to motion, and patterns, difficulty reading and focusing eyes, rocking and swaying feeling when walking, difficultly with using computer screens, being under florescent lights, difficulty with supermarkets, difficulty watching tv or movies with a lot of action or motion, whooshing sound in right ear when bending over or turning head quickly, facial tightness and tingling, really just feeling off, not right.
The ENT performed a hearing test, and VNG test, all came back normal. I went back to the ER multiple times, they kept summing it up as migraine. They used migraine cocktails to try to break the migraine, but nothing worked. By now I’m housebound and have developed severe anxiety, and depression. I laid on the sofa for 3 months straight due to pain in head, eyes, dizziness, as well as other bizarre symptoms. By this time I have seen more neurologists, more ENTs, multiple dentists, vestibular therapists, physical therapist, osteopath, ophthalmologists, neuro-ophthalmologist, pain management doctor, chiropractors, orthopedic spine and neck doctors, allergist, GI doctor, OBGYN, and etc. I have had more blood work done, more MRIs, MRA, and 2 MRVs, spinal tap, CTA of head and neck, CT of abdomen, EKG, stomach ultra sound, more hearing test, eye exams, removed upper right wisdom tooth. I have tried various prescription medications, herbal supplements, and changed foods, to no avail.
My previous medical history consist of sporadic headaches, but nothing that Advil wouldn’t knock out, constipation, pain in stomach on right side under rib cage, and pain under right shoulder blade. I also had my gallbladder removed in Jan 2015, due to a large gall stone. I also had my bottom right wisdom removed in Dec 2015. Prior to this medical mystery I was a vibrant 28 year old that exercised regularly, worked 7 days a week, and typically ate healthy. I don’t smoke, or used drugs.
I continue to suffer everyday living in this body full of pain discomfort for the past 2 years and 6 months that does not respond to any forms of medication. ’m in chronic pain from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep, not even a moment of relief. My quality of life has diminished, but I’m trying to remain faithful, hopeful, and prayerful through it all. The symptoms that makes life MOST unbearable is the CONSTANT eye pain and discomfort in both eyes, along with the dull ache on right side of head. Recently I have developed burning pain in my fingers and feet, eye floaters, along with the constant whooshing buzzing noise in my right ear only. Thank you in advance for considering my case.
