ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Lichen sclerosus is an autoimmune skin conditions. This affects my vulva, perineal and anal areas. It causes thinning skin, tearing skin, anal fissures and turns skin scaley and white. Some people have extreme itching. I do not, but I have an extreme burning sensation. I am told to use a potent steroid a couple times a week. I am told there is no cure and frankly not many Dr's know anything about this. This affects more people than the numbers to suggest because its on an area of the body people generally aren't comfortable talking about, me included. I finally went to the Dr because I couldn't sit, put on pants and saw white streaks. I had several tears. This is a devastating disease and doesn't just affect the patient but also the patient's partner. Sex is difficult, sometimes painful and takes days to recover from.
