Intermittent inexplicable swelling.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
My husband has been experiencing swelling and sometimes itching of different areas of his body, mostly his face/tongue. He had numerous tests, however nothing has defined what causes the issue.
He has no known allergies and there is no common denominator as to when/where he will experience a breakout. Once his tongue swelled so much that he had to drive to the emergency room (I was out of town) and ended up being treated with strong steroids and an Epi shot. Usually his face/tongue doesn't itch, however he's had random breakouts all over that do come with some itching. No pain involved, just embarrassing swelling (his face will become completely distorted. The attached photos are of his ER visit with his enlarged tongue and one where the left side of his face is swollen. Normally the swelling on the lips/face look like he's been stung by a bee or has had excessive Botox injections.
We have tried every avenue we know to determine the cause so that we know how to treat it, or if there is a more serious underlying issue, to no avail. As of now all of the specialists he's met with simply say there's no definitive answer...that's it!
Maybe someone else has had a similar issue and can guide us in what we should do next? My husband travels for work and presents to multiple high-level response agencies, therefore if we could learn how to stop the swelling (especially on his face) it would be spectacular!
Thank you so much for your consideration.
