Polyneuropathy affecting central, peripheral and autonomic nervous systems causing problems with every aspect of my life
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Hello, my name is Scott. I've been suffering from a polyneuropathy since 2013. In 2008 it started as a peripheral neuropathy.
I hit my knee against something really hard the other day but it wasn't as bad as the pain I live with daily. This was just another event that made me realize just how crummy my life has become.
I believe the original source of the neuropathy was either when I worked at a printing company or when I contracted chicken pox on New year's Eve 2005.
I'm not sure which of these events caused the neuropathies to begin with, but I do know that when I first went to the doctors I told them exactly what was wrong with me and I had to spend $10,000 in diagnostic tests so they could tell me what I told them when I walked in the door.
The doctors have been able to provide no help for me whatsoever other than provide narcotics for moderate pain. In fact I believe that a nerve conduction study made the problem far worse.
We have tried every drug including narcotics and NSAIDs and drugs like cymbalta and Lyrica etc., etc. The NSAIDS work for minor pain, narcotics help moderate pain, but when it gets really bad the only thing that helps is to submerge my limbs in ice water for as long as it takes to kill the pain, sometimes as much as two hours.
