ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I have been and continue to struggle with episodes, since 10/2018, of what seems to be focal seizures (normal EEG x10), aphasia that turns into stuttering post the episode, left sided weakness, extreme thirst and severe right sided headache post episodes. Blurred vision and my BP shoots up to around 200/120’s. Hospitalization X2 and multiple ED visits. The episodes are becoming more frequent which is affecting my quality of life. Sexual intercourse has resulted in an episode. I have run off the road while driving due to an episode so I am no longer driving. Neurologist told me that the episodes are psychologically induced and referred me to a neur-psych which confirmed that the episodes are not psychological. 7 normal CT scans; 4 MRI’s; however, most recent MRI shows a non-specific lesion on my right frontal lobe but my neurologist does not seem worried. I have been tested for Lyme disease, spinal tap, STD’s, epilepsy, all types of blood tests. I do have a 6mm non-calcified nodule on my lung, right middle lobe that has remained stable for 2 years. I have frequent falls due to the episodes which has resulted in my inability to work. I have a constant itch on my left upper arm in one spot but no rash that is not relieved by any type of creams, i.e. steroid, lotion, anti fungal. It feels like ants under my skin on that one particular area. My attitude and mood have changed significantly according to my family. They have told me that sometimes things I say make no sense at all. If I lay flat, I have extreme shortness of breath and I cannot complete tasks without sweating and becoming very lethargic. My muscles and bones hurt constantly. Recently started on Aimovig 70mg monthly, Topomax 50mg po Q pm, Verapamil ER 120mg PO Q pm. Will take second dose of Aimovig today. Topomax and Verapamil started 2 weeks ago. No symptom improvement actually symptoms seems to be progressing. I have been taking Zoloft 100mg and Klonopin 1mg nightly for 5 years due to generalized anxiety disorder/Panic attacks (which I believe was the beginning of all this business as many times if a diagnosis cannot be determined then anxiety is often, unfortunately, diagnosed). I have had a partial hysterectomy. I am a 30-pack year smoker. I am overweight but have been working towards losing weight but I am scared to participate in strenuous activity due to episodes. There has to be an answer for the progression of these symptoms. Please help me get my life back. I am a successful nurse that loves her job and helping make a positive impact my community. I just simply don’t know where to turn. My primary care doctor is doing all she can to help me but I believe this is beyond her level of training. God bless her. Thank you for any help or insight that you may be able to offer.
