I’m a 29yo female. Carpal tunnel at 13yo, migraines since 12yo, vertigo, severe back pain/neck pain. Thyroid cancer, PCOS, lichen sclerosus.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I was diagnosed with severe migraines at 13yo that same year I had my first symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand. I tried every migraine treatment available at the time with no luck. The hand specialist I seen didn’t believe the carpal tunnel until we confirmed it with testing. I battled the migraines constantly. The carpal tunnel cleared up until I was 20yo. This is when I was actively searching for answers as to why I built muscle like a man, couldn’t lose weight, had hair growth but was losing my hair on my head. I was told I didn’t have PCOS bc I didn’t have the “rope of pearl cysts on my ovaries.” This is when my thyroid issues came about as well. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 20yo. We could never get my meds regulated and I kept gaining weight. I had my right carpal tunnel release at 24yo and needed right ulnar tunnel release at 25yo. I have both in my left hand as well. I got answers from a TMJ specialist when I was 21yo for my migraines. I traveled 3hrs each way to meet with him. I still suffer migraines today they last up to 49hrs at times. They tend to originate at the base of my skull and neck then cause severe temporal pain. But they happen way less frequently than prior to TMJ diagnosis. My thyroid kept causing problems as did the PCOS. I was diagnosed with insulin resistance in 2017 however I was able to lose 90lbs via following a keto diet. I had an MRI done for a work out injury and we found nodules on my thyroid just within the last year and then linked some of my symptoms to the mass. I needed a total thyroidectomy done right away. I was then diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma with a follicular variant. I was just diagnosed in May 2019 with severe vulvular Lichen sclerosus though I’ve had symptoms since I was 9yo. My PCP, my mother and myself believe all of my stuff is linked together somehow. I fully believe that I have a rare diagnosis that I just need the right testing for. I go to doctor appointments so often I see them more than some of my family. I see a chiropractor sometimes 3-4x a week for my back n neck problems. Sometimes I can’t even roll over or bend over with my back, my current migraine has lasted 29hrs. I work full time and when I’m finished I’m so tired and fatigued I can’t move. There is also way more to my story!
