- CASE FILE
Post-partum cardiomyopathy at 38 years old. No prior risk factors.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Three days after the birth of my daughter I checked into the ER with shortness of breath and swelling in my feet. I found out I was in acute heart failure as a result of fluid build up around my heart and lungs. I had no risk factors (non-smoker, active and healthy lifestyle, normal pregnancy with no issues). It has been a little over a year and my ejection fraction has increased to a low normal range. I am taking lisinopril and carvedilol daily, and Lasix as needed. Would love to know what exactly caused the ppcm, if there was anything I could have done differently, in order to help to educate others and aid in prevention.
