I was an energetic teacher and mother. I became chronically ill with various symptoms including a DVT that baffle doctors. Please help!
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I became sick on April 15 of 2017. I was very healthy prior to - exercised and lifted weights on a daily basis while teaching elementary school. I had been sick prior to this with flu-like symptoms. I also had dental work done. I woke up that day barely able to move and it felt like an elephant on my chest. It also felt like someone was bear hugging me tight (I would feel my diaphragm are to see if there was something there). My chest hurt and it felt like I couldn't get a deep breath. I couldn't lay down straight or the pressure on my head felt like it would explode. Breathing felt difficult and my diaphragm would get distended to where my kids told me I looked pregnant. I began to run low-grade fevers (never above 101.5) and lymph nodes would swell off and on. I also had difficulty walking around due to the fatigue and hip pain. My ears also started to have a high pitched ringing that never went away. I was often dizzy with it feeling like I was on a very slow merry-go-round. My thinking/memory diminished and I had a difficult time even watching television. In June of that year my left leg began to swell. I had a Deep Vein Thrombosis for which I was put on a blood thinner. During this time I had the energy to walk to the restroom/kitchen/living room only. I didn't leave the house except for doctor appointments. I eventually got slightly better in August but not even 50% back to normal. I did what I could to work but missed many days of teaching. I was referred to Mayo where they found an acoustic neuroma but stated this is not the cause of what is occurring. My ANA was 1:320, sed rate high, usually have a low white count, lactate dehydrogenase low, low neutrophils and low leukocytes . I've had a red rash on my nose/upper cheeks from the sun but it isn't consistent. My doctors have noticed a discoloration of my skin - slight darkening in areas. The difficulty walking occurs when my hips are bothering me. My doctor has given me shots in the hips as the joints have inflammation. Fast forward to now, July 31st of 2019. This episode lasted until August of 2018. The terrible debilitating symptoms have lessened but they are still here with less frequency. I've now had a bone density test and my T factor is .3 away from osteoporosis. My life as I knew it for myself, with my husband and family is not the same. I have to decide what I can do and what I can't. I love teaching and am continuing to do so but am not sure how long I can handle it. Too much physical activity seems to set things off more. I have to limit gatherings, parties, and even at times grocery shopping. Right now the doctors have loosely diagnosed Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disorder, POTS, Raynaud's, Acoustic neuroma, chronic fatigue and some feel Fibro. BUT...no one can say for sure what it is or why. Any help is greatly appreciated! PS. The photos are taken when I have not been in the sun at all.
