ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I have lost my sense of taste and smell over a year ago. I was sick one week with a common cold. I went to the doctor. Within that week I slowly lost my taste and smell. I thought this was common, as sometimes when we are stuffed up, have viral infections, etc, those senses can be affected. After 3 weeks, I knew something wasn't right. My primary care physician then referred me to an ENT. He checked for polyps, did blood word, gave me nasal sprays to try for a month. Nothing improved. He then sent me to get an MRI done to see if there has been any type of nerve damage. The results came back fine. So, I was then sent to a neurologist. The neurologist's main concern was checking to see if I had any neurological issues. Everything was fine. I have not been back to the doctor in a year because the last thing I was told as to give it time. It may come back or it may be gone forever. I was never given any type of explanation as to why this could have happened. I just want some type of answers. You never know how much you enjoying have all your senses, until you lose two of them out of nowhere. Life is not easy, I often don't have an appetite to eat. I get worried I will become malnourished because eating is not something I enjoy anymore like most people do. I eat because I know I need to. It also worries me with my smell being gone that I will not be able to detect something that could be life altering (gas leaks, etc.). I would just like some type of answer. I hate living my life not knowing why this happened or if there is something that I can be doing to help these senses come back.
