- CASE FILE
I have a rare disease called Aquagenic Urticaria, or an allergy to water. I need help so I can follow my dream and go to medical school.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I was diagnosed with Aquagenic Urticaria as an infant. It’s a very rare disease affecting approximately 34 people in the world. Because of this there has been minimal research and no clinical trials. I get hives, redness, itch, and pain when my skin comes in contact with water, but some older people with my condition get anaphylactic reactions too. Dermatologists have given me steroid creams and antihistamines, but nothing has helped, and most things have just made it worse. My dream as long as I can remember has been to go to medical school, but doctors seem to spend half their days washing their hands.
