ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I’m reaching out Chasing The Cure because I’ve reached my end. I’ve been sick since 3 years old, I’ll be 60 on August 8th, that’s 57 years! I’ve been to hundreds of doctors for one thing or another, once I get a cold, I get something else, and then something else, and something on top of that. It’s never just one illness. I’ve had about 20 surgeries, and during one surgery or scan or scary, they find yet something else wrong. I don’t know why? Is it because I had trauma at such a young age, at 3 my body just broke down, or is it because that’s just my body and I have to deal with it forever? I don’t think I can deal with it forever. So I’m looking for help.
In August of 2018, I started to get this itch, all over my body, no rash, no hives, no redness no bumps. Just an intense itch, almost like a bite or burning, like my skin hurt. My clothes hurt just to put anything on my body. I wore loose clothes, so nothing would rub against my skin. A few weeks later, (because it’s never one thing) I started to have severe stomach upper right abdominal pain, come to find out my gallbladder had to removed. Ok, saw the surgeon, while he was in there, he saw some nodules on my liver, (again, it’s never one thing) biopsied them (benign) but I now have severe scarring: non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. I also have an umbilical hernia. Goody for me!
Saw my GI, he put me on a strict diet, but doesn’t know where the itch is coming from. He referred me to an allergist.
Went to see an allergist, everything was good there. He did put me on: Hydroxyzine 50mg 2 times a day, and Doxepin 50 mg 2 times a day. It does not help, but I still take them in hopes that one day it will just disappear like it appeared.
In January of 2019, I had my annual mammogram (normal- yay!) BUT, about 2 weeks after that I saw a large lump just under my left breast, but more on the top part of my upper left abdomen. After about 1 week it started to hurt, about 3 weeks it hurt more and more. 2 months later I saw my primary, she sent me for an X-ray, nothing showed up. Visually you can see it. By now it’s around the end of April, and it’s extremely painful. It hurts to bend sideways, lay my left arm in its side, even when I’m on my phone, it’s painful just to test my arm down on my side. So she sends me to see the surgeon. He sends me for a CT Scan, nothing shows up. My hernia is starting to bother me at this point also. He recommends repairing the hernia and looking inside to see what this lump is. Fine, we do the repair in June, nothing, he can’t see anything, no masses, no lumps, nothing! He’s confused. I’m in pain. He now sends me to a pain management doctor.
I go there, they don’t know what the itch is, or what the lump is. They recommend a nerve block. Mind you now, I have very high Co-pays, I live off of social security, and my son paid for my hernia surgery, I can not afford to keep going from doctor to doctor like this. I just can’t.
He says if we do the nerve block and it doesn’t help, then we suggest you go for CT Scan or ultrasound of the breast. So they have no idea what this is. They’re also not addressing the itch. I walk around in hardly any clothes, but when I go out, I’m so uncomfortable I feel like I’m crazy! I’m constantly scratching, people must think I’m nuts. My skin almost hurts, after a shower I want to die, at night, I sit and cry it’s so painful!
The pain management put me Gabapentin 300mg 2 times a day, because I can’t afford the Lyrica, but that’s it. I’ve changed soaps, laundry detergents, I don’t use shampoo because I have Alopecia Universalis, (which is total hair loss) but there’s no rash, just itch!
I need help, I feel like I’m losing my mind!
