ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Have been dealing with a chronic cough on and off for several years. This past fall the cough would not go away. In December of 2018 was taken to the emergency room for shortness of breath and chest pain. Just felt like I could not breathe. This come on suddenly. While in the ER they were shocked about the cough. I had already seen the ENT doctor and he found nothing. Next moved on the the GI doctor, they also found nothing. Did also have Blood Pressure elevated 215/80 during ER visit. Things have resolved with the blood pressure, but the cough is still here. The inhalers did seem to help at first but don’t seem to do much now. Have checked online for “the cough that wouldn’t go away” and found Lady Windermere (NTM). It sounds exactly like what is going on, but no doctor will really listen. I did see an allergist, and she did prescribe 6 months worth of a antibiotic where I would take 2 pills on Monday, skip Tuesday, take 2 pills on Wednesday, skip Thursday, and take 2 pills on Friday, then done for a month. This did seem to help except at month 6. They really didn’t do anything. I don’t know if because I had them for the 6 months if what I have became immune to them or not. The first 5 months the cough cleared up enough to function normally. Now I’m afraid to go any place because when I start coughing I cough so much and so hard, people look at me funny like I’m contagious and sometimes I throw up. I really need to find out what this is, how to treat it so life can be somewhat normal again. Every time I bring up NTM the doctors in this area of the county have not heard of it and seem to brush it off. Please help me figure out what I have.
