- CASE FILE
Severe dry eye for 2 years, now eyes and face twitching and eye squinting along with bad light sensitivity. And mouth and tongue spasms.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
2 years ago I started having bad Dry eyes and terrible light sensitivity and squinting. So bad I haven’t driven since then. I saw 5 different doctors who tried multiple drops, special contact lenses, and other treatments but nothing worked or gave me relief. Symptoms worsened and I started having eye twitching and my eyes would close on their own in bright lights. My face started twitching on one side next to my nose and caused my lip to go up. And then my lips started to pucker on their own. I saw a neurologist that says it’s Blepharospasms, a form of dystonia, but my neurosurgeon (I also have a brain tumor) says he thinks it could be hemifacial spasms. Neither has a cure and both use Botox as a symptom reducer but the side effects I’ve had are horrible. Droopy eyelids and mouth. I can’t smile. My eyes dry out because they inject botox in the eyelids and they don’t close all the way now when I sleep. The Botox temporarily helps somewhat with the twitching but not at all with the light sensitivity. This has disabled me due to not being able to drive now but it’s not considered a disability.
Mouth and tongue spasms, lip pursing
Diagnosed with possible Blepharospasm or hemifacial spasms or focal dystonia. Botox injections is only relief but side effects are causing droopy eyes and mouth. No cure. Not much understanding about it.
