Severe nail issue for 8 years. Prescribed anti-fungal medications with no results. No fungus found with recent biopsy. Nails wont grow right
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
About eight years ago I noticed spots forming under my finger nails and I really didn't think to much of it. Months pass and no more attention from my nails besides the specks underneath some of them that is until one day I begin to notice that now there are lumps forming under the nail. I go to a Dermatologist and he says I have a nail fungus issue and prescribes me some medication to be taken for four months if I remember correctly. About a month into taking these medication once a week I believe it was I begin to feel that my ability to taste was diminishing. I go to my Doctor at the time and explain that I was having some concern with my taste-buds. The Doctor assured me that it was not connected to the medication I was taking and advised me to continue taking the medication and not to be to concerned about my taste problem since It seemed very minor and probably was all in my head. I continued taking the medication and about another month later my sense of taste had vanished completely. I stopped taking the medication and after doing my own research I found that it had a huge chance of diminishing ones sense of taste as. I was was furious and terrified at the same time. Furious at the Doctors for failing to alert me to the potential side affects and terrified that my sense of taste was gone, it was like what I would imagine losing a limb would be like and no one could tell me how long until my taste returned, it may not I was told and to top it off my nails were getting worse and I was to scared to take any other medications. It was a miserable six months before my ability to taste came back. It was a miracle but by this time my fingernails and now my toe nails are a disgusting site broken, missing and deformed. A biopsy was done and no fungus was found. The Doctors have some ideas but cant definitively make a accurate diagnosis. Over the years I have tried everything from over the counter, home remedies to other prescription medications all to not much avail. I have learned to keep them trimmed as short as possible because they do not connect to the nail bed when allowed to grow. Another recent biopsy found no fungus still.
