I suffer from Interstitial Cystitis. There is no cure for this disease. It's time to find one.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
In 2017 I became ill. I was suffering from frequent, pelvic pain and painful urination. My doctor tested me for a UTI but the test was negative. This continued for months. I had every test imaginable. I had CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, bloodwork, and urinalysis. It wasn't until a urologist did a cystoscopy that I was diagnosed with intetstitial cystitis. The lining in my bladder is going. Any acid in my urine burns my bladder wall causing lesions. I have to watch everything that I eat and drink because anything acidic will cause a flare. Flares consist of frequent urination, my urine burns as if it's acid, my stomach will bloat so much that I look like I'm pregnant, I had constant pain in my pelvis. I will urinate up to 60 times a day. Due to the pain and frequent trip to the restroom, I had to retire from my career of 27 years. It has affected my quality of life. I am limited to what I can do and where I can go. The treatments for this condition are painful and invasive. I have had the following: bladder hydrodisten; temporary hypogastric nerve block; presacral neurectomy; bladder instills; and pelvic physical therapy. These treatments only provide temporary relief. And there's no guarantee that they will work. There are so many of us that suffer with interstitial cystitis. We need a cure.
