4 years post concussion - unable to read/ use computer due to convergence and accommodative insufficiency. Want my life back!
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I am seeking help because I am overall healthy 55 year old woman who has had an extremely successful career at an Executive level. I miss my life working as a team with my colleagues! Four years ago I was in a rear end car accident and suffered a concussion. I subsequently have been diagnosed with post concussion syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome and most importantly convergence and accommodative insufficiency. I have severe bilateral eye pain which is most prevalent when I work on the computer or do any amount of reading. It’s also extremely severe after driving for 40 minutes or more. I have also been diagnosed with left eye proptosis which is most prevalent after driving. I have had 4 year’s of treatment including several rounds of visual therapy for the insufficiencies. I have treated with some of the best doctors at Massachusetts general hospital in their pain clinic, neuro ophthalmologists and optometrists, neurologists and a rheumatologist. I have tried several dozen medications with no relief with the exception of gabapentin which relieved some of my fatigue for a short time. The consensus among the doctors if that there is some underlying conditions which is not allowing me to heal properly. I have had a C5/6 - 6/7 fusion in 2006 and there is discussion of whether the neck is contributing to the eye pain. To that end, I have had several radio frequency ablations and a blood patch to rule out intracranial hypotension. I am five years post stroke (minor) and five years post papillary thyroid cancer with full thyroidectomy. Any help or thoughts would be greatly valued as I decide to try to reinvent myself or continue to try to find a cure. Thank you
