- CASE FILE
I feel as if my blood has been replaced with gasoline & lit on fire. I have neverending stabbing, shocking, shooting extreme pain 24/7.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
While working as a teacher (my absolute dream job) in 1996, I fell and injured my knee. Due that one accident, I had 4 knee surgeries. After those surgeries, the pain level I experienced was completely off the charts. My knee was bright, shiny red, so overly swollen that I could not wear pants and extremely hot to the touch. I was bedridden for months at a time. I was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy ( RSD) and put on 22 pills a day: Oxycontin, Tramadol, Zanaflex, Neurontin, Xanax, Klonopin, etc.
In 2005, we moved from New York to North Carolina because the cold was unbearable to my leg. A cold wind blowing over my knee could send me into a terrible pain flare-up. Soon after moving, I received a flu shot, and my pain started to spread to my right arm. Slowly the burning pain crept up through the the right side of my neck and face. I was soon having trouble with my vision in my right eye. When I would lay down everything was blurry, but if I sat up everything became clear again. I was seeing holes in objects. But the first 2 eye doctors did not believe what I was saying. In addition, I also started to have severe migraines; the migraines As I tracked them, I realized they peaked as my pain spiked. I was then put on Topamax.
When I switched doctors, I was told that in addition to RSD, now being called CRPS Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), I also had Barre-Lieou Syndrome. As time went on, more illnesses/disorders started coming out of nowhere: Dystonia, Dysautonomia, Fibromyalgia, Scotomata, Keratitis Sicca, Cushing’s disease. A few years later, I developed a life-threatening Adrenal Adenoma, which resulted in the removal of one of my adrenal glands.
My immune system is very weak. I get sick very easily and it takes me a very long time to get rid of whatever virus or illness I should ever get. Insomnia plays a big role in my life. I never sleep more than 1 ½ to 2 hours at a time. If I should take a sleeping pill there are times I can sleep 3 ½ - 4 straight hours.
My mind is one big fog. It is almost impossible for me to get out a complete paragraph without forgetting words. It is extremely frustrating to say the least.
I have been diagnosed with Clinical depression and an anxiety disorder. I take psych meds every day.
I have been off all narcotics/opioids for more than 10 years now. I have tried many many courses of treatment: medication, injections, epidurals, Calmare Scrambler therapy, Ketamine therapy, Acupuncture, Cranio-Sacrial Massage, Reflexology, CBD oil. I have changed my diet – gluten-free for over 8 years now, almost dairy free for 2 years.
Yet, nothing or no one seems to really know how to stop this horrible pain. My pain flare-up just keeps getting worse. The swelling comes and goes, but the high level, intense searing heat never relents. My leg, especially while in flare-up becomes all mottled (shown in photos). When my right shoulder/neck is in flare-up, I cannot turn my neck, or use my arm. If it is my cheek, the right side of my face becomes bright red, instantly fiery hot and extremely painful. I becoming more confined to my house; and as much as I fight it, my depression just gets darker. I am only 48 – I do not want my life to be completely over just yet.
