- CASE FILE
In the last 10 years I have had 10 different diagnosis, seen over 50 specialists, have had every treatment possible... and I am still sick!
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
My symptoms started in 2009, I was losing my hair, feeling chronically fatigued, and my body was constantly aching. I was sent to a rheumatologist who said I had Lupus with a low positive Ana. Treatment was steroids. I still felt ill about 50% of the time, getting flu like symptoms often, chills, and hair loss which seem to come in flares. In 2012, I woke up one day from sleep and when I went to stand I could not walk. I was rushed to the hospital. Four days of no clear cut diagnosis, it was determined that I had a herniated disc sitting on the nerves running my legs. I had emergency surgery. It happened again six weeks later, along with a second surgery. Recovery was horrible. I had infections and developed a spasm issue where I could not walk without my body jerking and losing my footing. It took nine months of rehab to bounce back, but I never got back to me. Again with the sickness, this time chronic bronchitis, chronic sinus issues and bouts of walking pneumonia. In 2014, someone from my church mentioned that I should be checked for Lyme Disease. I asked my doctor and was given a test which had a positive ELISA. I was given 21 days of treatment. I felt brand new after this treatment until 3 months later, then I was given 30 more days of treatment. I felt like a rock star until six months later, I was sitting at my desk at work and my sight went blue then I had no sight. Then it came back but it was blurry and I was confused. I was brought to the ER where they poked and discussed and drew blood, with inconclusive results. The ER doctor attempted a spinal tap to no avail. My spine was messed up from the surgeries and he could not get it. I was scheduled later that week with radiology and Infectious Disease. Spinal tap showed nothing. ID doctor told me that I did not have Lyme and he thought i had a mild case of meningitis. But my symptoms were getting worse and increasing in number. By the time I saw him for a follow up, I was having massive headaches, ringing in my ears, trouble swallowing, vision issues (flashes, floaters, halos, after images and astigmatism), my eyes started burning, my chest would hurt alot and my blood pressure was very low. He said fibromyalgia and send me on my way. From that point in 2015 to this present day, I have seen close to 50 different doctors, maybe more, without a clear cut diagnosis. I am being treated with 23 different medicines and see 13 doctors a month treating anxiety, depression, blepharitis, chronic hives that come every day, persistent granuloma annulare, psoriasis of scalp, candida of nails, lyme disease, endocarditis, babesiosis, tick borne relapsing fever, Epstein Barr Virus, asthma, fatigue panic attacks, pain in my upper left stomach and upper left back (currently undiagnosed), pain when I eat, hair loss, and something to do with the hardening of my lungs. Sometimes I have a positive ANA, sometimes I don't. But other than the biopsies and tests with independent labs nothing else is positive. I feel like every time I turn around we are dealing with a new issue and adding more meds, when all I want to do is resolve it, find the cause and cure it.
