Daughter has sleep issues, anxiety, hand tremors, RLS, EDS, gastro-issues, prediabetes, extreme fatigue
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Daughter has sleep issues. She was tested several times for hypothyroidism, anemia - both negative. For years doctors said she needed to exercise and get more sleep, when she was very active in HS sports and getting ample rest. Progressively she gained weight, increased anxiety, severe hand tremors, back and joint pain. Her periods are irregular - heavy/light/non-existent/never-ending, even in BCP, but she was told she didn’t have POS even though she has several of the symptoms and was told to see a nutritionist, which she did and found she was already doing everything suggested. Her blood tests are all over the place and it was suggested she has pre-diabetes. She was referred to endocrinologist who looked at her tests and said she doesn’t even though her blood sugar was elevated, never saw her even with referral. When allowed, she sleeps 16+ hours a day and is still tired. I have to call her every single day, several times, to make sure she is up for class (college student). She basically teaches herself as she falls asleep in class 90% of the time. She hallucinates and has sleep paralysis. She has had two sleep studies. First was normal, second showed mild sleep apnea but her breathing only stopped for 10 seconds at a time, almost not enough to be assigned as apnea. She also has restless leg syndrome. She takes Zoloft for anxiety and armodafinil for her EDS - but she can easily sleep right through the Armo dosage. She can’t concentrate; she spends all of her time trying to study and figure out what she misses; her anxiety is on high alert because she’s afraid her professors think she’s lying; walking to class leaves her completely exhausted; she has no real college life as her fatigue greatly limits her social activities. I am a wreck because I fear she will harm herself somehow over her frustration with her doctors not listening to her and not alleviating any of her issues. She calls me crying about her issues several times a week.
