A 17 year old should be worried about grades and college. Instead my 17 year is worried about his health and why he feel sick all the time?
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
My 17 year old has had abdominal pain for 2 years . In the last year he has lost 15 lbs. He also, suffers from nausea, lightheadedness, headache so severe that he missed half of his junior year of high school. My son is also a runner, in which he could run a 5:10 minute mile but due to his pain and sickness he has been unable to run with the team. He also, had his gallbladder removed to have no improvement. We have seen multiple GI doctors and had multiple tests such as Endoscopy (twice), capsule endoscopy, colonoscopy, hyda-scan, ultra sound, CT scan (twice), and MRI. Blood work has also been done to check for mono virus, autoimmune hepatitis, pancreatitis, liver disease, thyroid issues. He has had mildly elevated liver enzymes (GGT,AST,ALT and Alk phosphate). We have done counseling cause doctors thought that stress and anxiety where the cause but that did not help things improve. The only thing he's tested positive for is Small intestine bacterial overgrowth (S.I.B.O), mild gastritis, and bile reflux. Medication we have tried are:
Dicyclomine 20 mg 4x/day
Cyproheptadine 4mg 1x/day
Zofran (Ondansetron 4mg) every 4 to 6 hrs
Promethazine 12.5 mg every 6 to 8 hrs
Hydrocortisone suppository 25mg 1x/day
Miralax (for Constipation)
Metamucil (for constipation)
Magnesium Oxide 400mg (for constipation)
Lypo-spheric Vitamin C 1,000 mg 1x/day
Flagyl 500mg 3x/day for 8 ⅓ days
Sertiline 100mg 1x/day
We have reached a point where the doctors dont know what other test they can do. We are very desperate for help. My son is going to be a senior this years and his health should be the last thing that he needs to worry about.
