- CASE FILE
A few yrs ago, I was a healthy 48 yr old. Migraines, seizures, & now asthma, an enlarged heart & pscoriatic arthritis are plaguing my life.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I am seeking help because my GP has given up on me and I am now seeing a asthma and immunologist, a rheumotologist, a cardiologist, neurologist, an ENT, an urologist, a orthopedic surgeon, and an ophthalmologist.
In 2009, I thought I was having a heart attack. In the emergency room I started experiencing partial paralysis and seizure like symptoms. I spent 18 hours in the emergency room having my heart checked (which was fine), CAT scans and MRIs. Finally, the head of neurology came down and informed me I was having "complicated migraines" which could also be hemiplegic migraines. I was told to see a headache specialist who sent me to a neurologist who sent me back to the headache specialist who said he couldn't help me. I dealt with seizures on and off for the next few years, mainly during my menstrual cycle, having my family put pillows around me for days on end so I wouldn't hurt myself during seizures that would tighten my body, feel like I was experiencing electric shock, release and then pass out, and sometimes quit breathing until I was shaken enough to come out of it. I dealt with it alone because I didnt have insurance. When I finally got insurance, I was able to have sleep studies done with electrodes attached to my head, more MRIs and CTs along with massive amounts of blood work. I went to over five neurologist with still no answers other than "complicated migraines". I was put on high blood pressure medicine and gained over 50 lbs. I think I was put on every seizure medicine out there, having side effects that still remain with me to this day (eye twitch, memory loss and nerve damage). I started experiencing motor function issues and always knew seizures were headed my way when I started dragging my right leg, running into door frames and slurring my speech. A few years ago, I started having problems with my breathing, experiencing seizures that would manifest as asthma with severe chest pain. I developed full blown asthma, borderline COPD, and am taking allergy meds morning and night, have two different nasal sprays and two inhalers along with a rescue inhaler. In the middle of that, I fell and broke my arm. After having screws put in my elbow and arm, I developed a rash on both arms which my orthopedic surgeon thought was a staff infection. Turns out, it was pscoratic arthitis. My joints started swelling (elbows, knees, Achilles tendons, hands and feet). He did knee surgery where he trimmed my torn meniscus and scraped a ton of arthitis off the bones that were rubbing together. He sent me to a rheumotologist who diagnosed me with pscoriatic arthritis and put me on Humira, a biologic. As of now, I have recently been put in the hospital with low potassium that almost caused a heart attack and been to the emergency room with low oxygen levels during a severe asthma attack. My asthma doctor wants to put me on another biologic and is monitoring my asthma as it is not improving. I also have kidney issues in which I have had surgery for kidney stones and currently can not urinate without lasix and retain massive amounts of fluid which compound my joint, heart and heart issues. I am also about to have nerve testing done as I have developed peripheral neuropathy and it appears to be getting worse. My hands and feet tingle non-stop. I feel like I am my only advocate and am trying to coordinate all the doctors, moving from waiting room to waiting room, being shuffled around from one to the other doctor and each one adding one more drug for their particular symptom specialty. I don't know how much more I can take.....I want to live again, I want to see my grandbabies grow up, I want to travel with my husband when he retires, I don't want to be a financial burden on my family anymore....I'm so very tired of fighting. Please, please, please help me.
