ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I was diagnosed with RA at age 21. I was a college athlete and healthy. My joint swelling started on the left side of my body, so I thought it was my heart, but blood work confirmed Rheumatoid arthritis. Soon after, the pain and stiffness settled in and I couldn’t move my neck, I couldn’t get up without help. My feet twisted and then my hands. I was given many pain pills and steroids to help, but this was only a bandaid. I couldn’t live this way, so I started to research what could have caused this, cause I was healthy! Doctors told me it was probably genetic. Through my research I found that I was possibly deficient in some vitamins and minerals, so I started taking everything I felt I could be deficient in. At this point doctor had me on methotrexate and Arava. At age 40 something changed, swelling reduced and pain was almost nonexistent. I felt like I was on my way to being cured. Fast forward to me now, age 54, deformities to my hands and feet, both knees replaced. I don’t have pain, I can walk, hike and exercise. I no longer take methotrexate, but I do continue to take Arava and all of my vitamins and minerals. I don’t know what changed, but I’m happy it did!
