Migraines since age 10. Initially triggered by overheating. Worsened over time. Caused stroke 2 months after 40th birthday. Constant since.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Fractured skull when I was a year old. No details. No idea if this is even relevant.
Started getting migraines at age 10. Initially brought on by overheating, playing/working outside. Progressed to indoor activities like playing racquetball. No treatment til college (1985) when I got beta blockers and amitriptyline. No relief but gained 50 ponds. Continued to try every available migraine med. Fiorinal was 1st to help. Tried others but no real relief until Imitrex. Got to the point where I was injecting Imitrex several times a week.
Two months after my 40th birthday, I had a stroke. In hospital for 5 days where they ran a bunch of tests (multiple CT scans, Doppler of calves and neck, blood clotting tests, etc.). Doctors decided everything was fine and the migraines caused the stroke.
After my stroke, I had a constant migraine for over a year. Tried additional meds including, at one point, lithium. Nothing helped. Went to a special clinic in Michigan (Michigan Head Pain and Neurological Institute) for 3 weeks. They determined that I also had Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension w/o papilledema (aka pseudotumor cerebri). Took me off my meds and found a combo that helped, but did not eliminate my headache issues. They also determined that I have migraine-like headaches caused by neck problems (vertebral and muscular issues). The introduces radio-frequency nerve ablation C2-C5 bilaterally.
Since 2009, I have had a constant headache (scale of 2 out of 10). I still have heat-induced migraines. I still have migraine-like headaches. I currently take Aimovig which is helping. I also take Diamox, Baclofen, Robaxin, and Lexapro. I have obstructive sleep apnea, use a CPAP machine, and take a low dose of Trazodone to help me sleep.
I also have a problem that I think might be related but am not sure. I don't sweat like anyone I know. I only sweat, for the most part, around my bra strap and waistband. Occasionally I will sweat a bit around my hairline, but, as other people I'm with at the time are pouring sweat off themselves, I'm just not. I get uncomfortably hot for no apparent reason at times. Yet, after being diagnosed with severe endometriosis and ovarian cysts then having a hysterectomy in 2011, I have never had a hot flash.
