- CASE FILE
2 years ago I lost my balance at a concert. My movement and speech are now very limited. I worked for a nonprofit and was fired from my job.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I have limited speech and mobility. The symptoms came on within months in 2017. I have had multiple CAT scans and a brain meningioma was discovered and removed with brain surgery. I had no improvement in symptoms. Doctors have performed 2 spinal taps. They discovered Paraneoplastic antibodies in the fluid of the first test which is an indication of an overactive immune system. This is very rare and it is typically caused by breast, ovarian or liver cancer. I have been tested for all cancers and none were found. I have been treated with plasmapheresis, IVIG and Rituxan. None of these treatments helped. The antibodies have never been found in my blood tests and the 2nd spinal tap came back negative for Paraneoplastic antibodies. I am unable to walk without assistance and it is very difficult for other people to understand me. I also have limited function of my hands and it is nearly impossible to write or type.
I'm very frustrated with treatments that have no results. I feel as though doctors have no idea what is really wrong with me and just keep passing me around and medicating me with no improvement. I'm afraid that symptoms will continue to get worse until I am no longer to get out of bed, eat and eventually lose my battle with this.
