- CASE FILE
I have undiagnosed abdominal pain, lower left abdomen and lower left back.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
In 2011, I contracted a serious case of pneumonia which resulted in empeyema in my right plural space (forgive me if I got the terminology wrong). After leaving the hospital, I was given abtibiotics orally and through a PIC line for several months. This drastically changed my digestive system and I started experiencing pressure and pain in my lower left abdomen which radiated into the left kidney area of my back.
In the years since, I have had xrays, ultrasounds, abdominal CT Scans, and three colonoscopies. I have been to several General Practitioners, two gastroenterologist, and even a naturopath. I have tried the gaps diet, paleo diet, specific carbohydrate diet, fast tract diet, FODMAP, and even an elemental diet. The only food item that seems to affect my condition is alcohol, which triggers severe pain.
I have had GERD and taken omeprazole dailey since 2000. I used to drink beer daily-I was an enthusiast who brewed and drank very yeasty, live beers, but now completely abstain due to the pain it causes.
I used to be very athletic- I raced mountain bikes, cycled for hundreds of miles per week, went backpacking, and climbed most of the mountains in Southern Oregon and Northern California, but this condition has been serious enough that I can not work or exercise (causes severe flare up) and am currently living on disability.
