Constant nausea and stabbing pain above belly button. All tests come back normal
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
The pain started August 2018 after returning from a conference in Las Vegas. A severe, stabbing abdominal pain about 3 inches above my bellybutton. I was throwing up, I couldn’t keep any food down. No diarrhea. After a week with no improvement, I went to the doctor. They said I was very constipated and gave me “the juice”. Magnesium Citrate. I drank the juice and it did it’s job. But the pain was still there. I went to the ER because the pain was unbearable. The ER staff booked me an appointment with the GI specialist. She did a very thorough work up. CTs, ultrasounds, blood work, urine and stool tests, stomach emptying test, gallbladder tests, and an endoscopy. Everything came back normal. This work up took about 6 months. I had lost 35 lbs. After that, the GI referred me to a pain management clinic. Those doctors issued me a Tens unit. I didn’t get any relief. They also tried a lidocaine shot into my abdominal wall. Still no relief. From there I was referred to an acupuncturist. I tried the ear acupuncture and the needles into the abdominal area. If anything, the acupuncture made me feel worse. My regular doctor is out of ideas.
I wake up with severe nausea and abdominal pain. Every time I engage my core, the pain gets worse. Walking, bending over, sitting, standing... I have not found a position that relieves the pain. I have tried different pain medications without relief.
I don’t have any trouble with bowel movements. The pain does not move. My abs are not swollen or poking out.
