- CASE FILE
I have multiple fistulas in my heart and lungs. Traditional surgical ligation did not work, as they all grew back.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I had multiple heart caths done to coil/plug my coronary fistulas. Everytime, within a few months, my symptoms would return and worsen. They would repeat the diagnostic cath and everytime it should either new fistula formation or aneurysms in the fistulas, bypassing the coils/plugs. I had surgical ligation of 5 of the 7 fistulas from my coronary fistulas, but within 3 months of the surgery my symptoms returned and the fistulae were opened again. I also have pulmonary fistulas that causing difficulty breathing and recurrent lung infections. I just had my 2nd open heart surgery, where the surgeon placed artificial artery grafting material at the site of the ligated fistulas. Since my surgery was just 4 weeks ago, we are unsure if this could help at this point. I would love to find out what is causing these fistulas to form. I have already been tested for HHT and that was negative. The diagnoses I have at this time are multilateral coronary artery fistulas and high output heart failure. Neither of these explain why the fistulas are forming or what is causing them to come back.
