- CASE FILE
Since 2010 I have a condition known by some doctors as Burning Mouth Syndrome. Every day I live with pain in my mouth and nose.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Sudden onset in 2010 of burning, stinging sensation in mouth ( roof, tongue, cheeks and lips) Same feeling in my nose for the past 4 years.
I cannot eat or drink anything that is cold or hot without great pain. Anything containing mint flavors in food, toothpaste, oral rinse, etc. cause intense pain. Sugar, salt, crispy items, all fresh fruits, acidic items, carbonated drinks affects my nose terribly, strong scents and breathing cold air in winter causes great pain in my nose. When my nose is painful it causes my nose and eyes to water constantly. I've tried coating the inside of my nose with vaselene but nothing helps. I have seen dentists, internists, ENTs, oral surgeons, Gyns and neurologists, they know the syndrome is real but they do not know the cause, treatment or cure. I have taken multiple medications and none have helped. I recently visited a different group of Neurosurgeons that have been using Gamma Knife surgery for patients with Trigeminal face pain. I had a brain MRI and lab test but was told I was not a candidate for the surgery. This doctor has referred me to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN and I am awaiting their call for an appointment. I saw your program tonight and I am praying you might be able to help. I will go anywhere or do anything to be free from this misery. My life is affected daily from the constant pain and I know there are many people suffering from this same disorder.
