ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
My symptoms have been all over the radar for years. Early on my only concern was the alopecia however having this as a child shaped my entire life. I felt less than for more years than I care to admit because of this condition. Now coupled with these other conditions I've retired from my job in hopes of finding why my body is failing me but I'm simply going from one specialist to another with not idea if my symptoms are tied together or what to do about them. I'm depressed and sad most often because I don't know where to turn or who will take the time to pull my charts and look at my symptoms together instead of in a bubble. I've been told by specialist and my GP that I probably have an auto immune disease that they are unable to diagnose due to my symptoms. I've had many symptoms for many years. Within the last 2 years I've been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation (no treatment suggested), Spina Bifida (no treatment suggested), Thyroglossal Duct Cyst (removed in 2017), Thyroid Nodules (monitor annually, no treatment), Glaucoma (semi annual visual field test, surgery to lower eye pressure even though pressure was never high), and Cataracts (no treatment suggested). I have problems swallowing and often find myself choking even when swallowing my own saliva. My stomach is bloated, extended, uncomfortable, and nauseous most of the time (had colonoscopy which showed no issues, no further treatment). Alopecia which started about age 7 has now moved to almost half of my head (many unsuccessful treatments over the years, and while it continues to spread further back dermatologist have simply looked at scalp and determined the cells are dead and nothing can be done even to the new areas.
