ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
6 years ago, unexpectedly and out of nowhere, I experienced the worst head pain and vertigo in my life. All of my MRI and CT scans and blood work have come back normal over the course of this journey. That intense head pain and vertigo, along with severe motion sensitivity, light sensitivity, smell and sound sensitivity, and nausea has progressively gotten worse. Since that day, I have experienced debilitating head and neck pain with vertigo 24/7. My pain or symptoms never leave - they just vary in intensity each day. My pain (on a scale of 0-10) ranges between a rare 4 on a good day and a 10 at its worst. Normally I'm between a pain scale of 7-9. My pain location moves often and the type of pain changes (constant dull ache to sharp, stabbing, electric like zaps). I now have severe neck pain and stiffness, all over muscle weakness, muscle and joint pains and stiffness, and a brain fog I can only describe as feeling like I've lost all intelligence. Simple sentences often make no sense; I can't find common words while speaking; I no longer comprehend what I'm reading most days; my short term memory seems to no longer exist. I've been to various different types of specialists in my 6 years - from Neurologists, Pulmonary Specialists, to Rheumatologists, Endocrinologists, Accupuncturist, NUCCA Chiropractors, Naturopaths, Physical Therapists, Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapists, different Chiropractor specialists, Internal Medicine Dr.s, Psychiatrists, Pain Psychologists, OBGYN's, Massage therapists, PCPs, and the list goes on. I was never able to get a definitive diagnosis, just mostly intractable migraines, PPPD (persistent-postural perceptual dizziness), disequilibrium syndrome, cervical dystonia, bilateral occipital neuralgia, and fibromyalgia. What I don't understand is why my chronic, debilitating pain does NOT respond to any medications or treatments of any kind. None of the "diagnosis" I've been given should be resistant to all treatments. I've exhausted my medication avenues, including Botox, Dysport, all new migraine shots, occipital nerve blocks, even tried medicinal cannabis, with no reduction in symptoms.
Pain is a sign of dysfunction in the body - if treatments don't work, there's something else still needing to be further investigated, in my opinion. I know there are many, many people like me, suffering from chronic, debilitating, invisible illnesses, and we remain invisible to most of the medical community. I have not only lost my health, but my financial security, my job, and most of my friends, not to mention my independence and quality of life.
Please....help....so together we can help many others who suffer unnecessary daily pain.
