Hearing and talking electrocutes me.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
Several years ago I went to a concert with my friend. After singing along with a few songs I started hearing sound distorted. It almost sounded like my ear was a blown speaker. I figured I had a buildup of wax so the next week day I made an appointment to get my ear wax removed. After the Drs appt I thought I was good to go. But next time I was at a concert the same thing happened. I went back to the ENT dr and they referred me to a specialist ear doctor. This dr recommended I give up caffeine and if that doesn’t help I probably have hyperacusis which is a sensativity to sounds. He offered to perform a surgery but only gave it a 50/50 shot of helping me. I tried giving up caffeine but that didn’t help. As time had gone on it has gotten worse and worse. Less sound causes my ear to bother me. I can’t be with more than a few people without pain, especially if I’m talking. When I hear noise after I’ve been around it for a few minutes it’s painful and sounds distorted. I’m ok for a bit but once it starts it gets worse and worse. I feel like I have a knife stabbing into my brain and then vibrating. The worst part is it happens not only when I hear things but also when I talk. The longer I’m exposed to sound the more painful it gets. I find myself withdrawing from my friends and even worse, my husband and I would like to have kids but I’m scared to have them because of the pain a baby’s cries would cause.
