Severe photophobia forcing eyes to close
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I had my thyroid removed due to cancer in March. Following surgery my vision has been blurry and tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. Then I presented with seizure like activity which included my right side of face, eyes, and right arm and hand. The light triggered these events. I also feel nauseous in the morning and dizzy and lightheaded to the point of feeling like I will pass out on a daily basis. My symptoms have gotten better from my two week hospital stay but not improving enough to maintain a normal life. I have a very difficult time focusing. I cannot walk a straight line without falling. I cannot walk up or down stairs that are unfamiliar without help. I cannot try to read up close without having an episode with my eyes in all of these scenarios. This and the light is what triggers my eyes to shut on their own almost like a seizure. I am currently being treated for migraine. Medication has helped with some symptoms but I still have an extreme photophobia and cannot walk outside without special FL-41 sunglasses. All of my testing looks “normal”. I need answers as to why this happened and if I will ever get back to my normal again.
