I am in chronic pain and have symptoms of multiple autoimmune diseases. Now other serious conditions are happening and I’m scared.
ABOUT THIS CASE FILE
I have had asthma since childhood and have had headaches and chronic pain in my neck since I was a teenager. Then I couldn’t conceive and the OB/GYN diagnosed excess prolactin in my system. In the past ten years my body has gone crazy. I’ve developed Sjogren’s Syndrome and my eyes are so dry that my corneas are eroding. I now have lichen planus in my mouth, intermittent skin plaques with lymphocytic infiltrates, My fingers blanch at least once a day I have hypothyroidism and was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis, Syndrome of Inappropriate Dieuretic Hormone and Factor XI deficiency. My arthritis has also exploded in my hands and feet—my joints are symmetrically swollen, I’m losing the fine motor skills in my hands and I am in severe pain when I walk. All of this has severely impacted my life. There isn’t a day where my neck doesn’t ache and my should muscles don’t knot. I can’t keep my blood pressure down and and can take minimal anti inflammatory drugs because I almost bled to death after I had surgery in 2017. I’m in constant pain. I used to get cervical epidurals but now I can’t because of the bleeding issues. I’m so frustrated. Lately I’ve been getting lightheaded and dizzy, and my fatigue is overwhelming. My hand also tingle occasionally. My bloodwork for various autoimmune diseases has been normal, so what’s wrong? Is my body just falling apart? I should mention that my daughters both have Hasimoto’s Thyroiditis and the older one survived cutaneous gamma/delta t-cell lymphoma. I had gastric bypass surgery ten years ago—could that have played a factor? I currently see a rheumatologist, pulmonologist and dermatologist, and I have a good primary care physician. Right now I take a lot of medications—Lyrica and Cymbalta for pain, thyroid medication, Xiidra for dry eyes, plaquenil for Sjogren’s syndrome, Evoxac for dry mouth, Breo inhaler and Singulair for my asthma, olmasartin and amlodipine for my blood pressure, and trazodone for sleep. I take meloxicam every other day and then have to take Protonix to reduce the risk of gastric bleeding. I also have Tylenol with codeine for pain, but I’m afraid to take it. Trampoline doesn’t help at all. In addition to all of this, I’ve had multiple fusions of joint in my feet, breast reductions to try to take pressure off my neck and shoulders. Nothing helps. I hurt all of the time. I think there’s an autoimmune puzzle that needs to be put together. Any advice or ideas would be wonderful. Thank you for caring.
